Daemen Wraps Up Brockport Invitational

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Daemen men's track and field team continued its season on Saturday, competing at the Brockport Invitational. 

CJ Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) led the Wildcats, finishing second in the mile and third in the 3,000m run. Ethan Keating (Wooster, Ohio) also had a strong showing in the mile. 

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Johnson earned a silver medal in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:24.29, which broke his personal best time and the program record he had previously held.
  • Keating placed two spots behind Johnson in the mile with a time of 4:28.67. He broke his previous PR by nine seconds and logged the second-best time in program history.  
  • In the 60-meter hurdles, Devon Mendez (Hartford, Conn.) placed fifth in the final with a time of 8.98 seconds, shaving 0.17 seconds from his heat time of 9.15 seconds, where he placed seventh. 
  • Johnson continued his strong day with a bronze medal in the 3,000m run, logging a time of 8:54.97. He once again broke the program record and shaved 19 seconds off his previous PR.
  • Freshman Simon Evans (Galway, N.Y.) took eighth in the 3,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 9:14.04. 
  • Fellow freshman Ibrahim Hakizimana (Rochester, N.Y.) logged a sixth-place finish in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.77, good for seventh in the program record book. 
  • Off the track, Owen Dernbach (Alden, N.Y.) took ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.14m.

The Wildcats are back in action next Saturday, competing at the Highlander Invite in Houghton, N.Y.
