Men's Tennis Opens Spring Campaign With Ohio Road Trip 1/29/2026 11:30:00 AM AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University men's tennis opens the spring semester portion of their 2025-26 schedule with a two-match road trip to Ohio this weekend. The Wildcats are set to face the Walsh Cavaliers (Jan. 30, 6 p.m. at North Canton Racquet Club) and Ashland Eagles (Jan. 31, 12 p.m. at Lakewood Racquet Club) - both members of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Daemen posted a 2-3 record during the fall portion of their season, and were last in action Oct. 19 when they scored a 5-2 win over Oswego. The Wildcats feature a quartet of players with at least 20 combined singles/doubles wins in their careers, led by senior Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) with 23. Fellow senior Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and juniors Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) and Lucas Garcia (Bogotá, Colombia) have each gathered 21 combined wins in their careers. Newcomers Riley Fitzgerald (Auburn, N.Y.) and Mitch Pollack (Winnipeg, Man.) have each made an immediate impact for the Wildcats. Fitzgerald leads the team with three singles wins, while Pollack posted a team-best four doubles wins last fall. Head coach Richard Greco, Jr. has also bolstered the roster for the spring season, adding freshmen Jordan Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y.) and Pablo Viera (Naples, Fla.) to the mix. Daemen will be seeking its first-ever win over Walsh. The Cavaliers have won each of the teams' five prior meetings, including a 6-1 final last February. Walsh went 10-12 last season, including a 4-4 mark in GMAC play. They played just two dual matches last fall, defeating West Virginia State (6-1) and falling to Charleston (5-2). Saturday's match with Ashland marks the teams' first-ever meeting. The Eagles posted an 8-9 overall record last season, with a 2-6 mark in GMAC play. They are off to a 1-3 start this season, and will be looking for their first win since a 6-1 defeat of Salem on Sept. 27. Daemen University features the premier NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
