AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team will travel down to Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon for a 1 PM non-conference match against the Bloomsburg Huskies. The Wildcats come into the match with a 2-5 record, 0-2 in the spring. This is the first dual match of the year for Bloomsburg as well as their first action of the spring.
The Wildcats are coming off a tough opening weekend of the spring season where they fell to the Walsh Cavaliers and Ashland Eagles in a pair of 0-7 tilts last weekend in Ohio. Daemen put together a 2-3 record in the fall season, picking up 5-2 wins against Nazareth and Oswego, and are in search of their first win of the semester. With an upperclassmen-heavy roster, The Wildcats feature a quartet of players with at least 20 combined singles/doubles wins in their careers, led by seniorÂ
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) with 23. Fellow seniorÂ
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and juniorsÂ
Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) andÂ
Lucas Garcia (Bogotá, Colombia) have each gathered 21 combined wins in their careers.Â
NewcomersÂ
Riley Fitzgerald (Auburn, N.Y.) andÂ
Mitch Pollack (Winnipeg, Man.) have each made an immediate impact for the Wildcats. Fitzgerald leads the team with three singles wins, while Pollack posted a team-best four doubles wins last fall.Â
Head coachÂ
Richard Greco, Jr. has also bolstered the roster for the spring season, adding freshmenÂ
Jordan Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y.) andÂ
Pablo Viera (Naples, Fla.) to the mix. Viera made his Daemen debut last weekend, playing in No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles in both matches.Â
The Wildcats are looking for their first win over Bloomsburg since 2024. Daemen is 2-5 all-time against the Huskies. Bloomsburg comes into the season after putting together a very successful 2024-25 campaign in which they went 11-4 overall and advanced to the NCAA Regionals where they lost to fellow PSAC foe Edinboro.Â
Daemen returns to Western New York next weekend for the first time since Sept. 28 as they host West Liberty on Saturday, Feb. 14 in a 6 PM match at the Miller Tennis Center.Â
