AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team opens 2026 East Coast Conference play this weekend with a pair of matches downstate. The Wildcats will take on Queens College on Friday, March 20 at 1:30 PM in Flushing, N.Y. and wrap up the weekend on Saturday, March 21 with an 11 AM match at St. Thomas Aquinas College. Daemen comes into the weekend with a 3-9 overall record and a 1-6 record in spring action.
The Wildcats are coming off a 1-6 loss to Division I St. Bonaventure last weekend. The Bonnies won all three doubles matches for the first point of the game, and went on to win five of the six singles matches. Daemen freshman
Mitch Pollack (Winnipeg, Man.) battled hard at 6th singles to earn the 6-0, 6-3 win over Arjun Pindiprolu to stave off the Bonnies' sweep. Since Feb. 6, the Wildcats have recorded at least one point in each match.
With an upperclassmen-heavy team that features four players with at least 20 combined singles/doubles wins in
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands),
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.),
Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) and
Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Colombia), Daemen's newcomers have seen a lot of success in the young season thus far. Freshman
Mitch Pollack (Winnipeg, Man.), Lumanog and Chitanand each have four singles victories this season. Pollack also leads the Wildcats with four doubles wins.
Coming off back-to-back trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament First Round, perennial powerhouse Queens is in the midst of another fantastic season. The Knights boast a perfect 9-0 record on the year and have dominated their competition in every match they've played so far. Queens' roster features six upperclassmen but it's the underclassmen that are taking the reigns this season! The Knights are led by sophomore Adam Laur who has an impeccable 11-1 singles record, and sophomore Samuel Linck has an 8-1 singles record this year.
St. Thomas Aquinas put together a historic 2025 campaign that saw the Spartans run all the way to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16. The Spartans come into this weekend's match with a 6-3 overall record with all three losses coming last week as the Spartans took a spring break road trip down to Orlando, Fla. Returning to the STAC roster this year 2025 ECC Rookie of the Year Erik Victor Tauson.
The Wildcats will return to Western New York next week to host Queens (Friday, March 28) and Millersville (Saturday, March 29).
