Comeback Falls Short, Wildcats Fall To Top-Seeded Point Park

11/4/2011 8:58:00 PM

SOUTH PARK, PA - Two second half tallies from Daemen's Kyle Clifford just wasn't enough as a second half comeback attempt by the Wildcats fell just short today, as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the top-seeded Point Park Pioneers in the semifinals of the American Mideast Conference Men's Soccer Tournament. With the loss, Daemen ends its season at 4-12 overall. Point Park, meanwhile, improves to 12-4-1 and moves on to the conference championship game where they'll face the winner of Roberts Wesyleyan and Houghton.

Alex Sala put the Pioneers ahead just 21 ticks into the contest with his sixth of the season off a feed from Jack Pilkinton. A Wendelin Hobel tally in the 3rd minute put the Wildcats in an early 2-0 hole.

Sala added his second of the game, and seventh of the season, in the 18th minute, hooking up with Pilkinton again to put the hosts up 3-0.

Clifford would cut the deficit to 3-1 with his 15th marker of the season in the 68th minute. Later, Clifford would score again, off a feed from Juan Sebastian Esguerra in the 71st minute.

That would be all she wrote for Daemen, however.
