Daemen's Dream Season Ends At AMC Semis

BUFFALO, NY - The third time was the charm today for the Roberts Wesleyan Raiders who scored a 2-1 victory over the host Daemen Wildcats, ending the second-seeded Wildcats' dream season in the semifinal round of the American Mideast Conference Tournament at the Demske Sports Complex. The Raiders improve to 10-9 on the season and move to play top-seeded Houghton (16-3), who defeated Point Park 3-0 in the other semifinal, for the conference championship and a NAIA National Tournament berth. The Wildcats end their season at 15-4.

"We made two errors that we typically haven't made all season and Roberts buried their chances," said Daemen head coach Dan Dolan. "We had some real nice opportunities but for whatever reason we just couldn't get the ball over the goal line. It's real unfortunate but that's how the game goes sometimes. I'm very proud of this team and I wish badly that it could continue."

Erika Luedke recorded both Raider goals, putting the visitors ahead in the 10th minute on a feed from Kara Farnsworth. Luedke would add an unassisted tally in the 58th minute to make the Roberts lead even cushier at 2-0.

Senior Jenelle Masi got Daemen on the board when fellow senior Lindsay Miller found her for a goal in the 63rd minute.

Despite 15 total shots and seven shots on goal, the Wildcats could not push another past the Raiders' Breanna Maggio.

The loss stings for Daemen who won the conference regular season championship outright with an 11-1 mark in AMC play this season. However, it doesn't dampen what has unquestionably been the greatest season in the history of the Daemen women's soccer program.
