HAMBURG, NY - The Daemen Wildcats picked up their second consecutive road win today as they handled the host Hilbert Hawks of NCAA Division III by the final score of 5-0. With the win, Daemen improves to 3-2 on the season while Hilbert drops to 0-4.
"I thought both teams played with good tempo today," said Daemen head coach
Mark Spacone. "The game was pretty smooth and both teams played good solid soccer. We were fortunate to cash in on some scoring chances and that was the difference."
Sophomore
Josh Radecki (South Wales, NY/Iroquois Central HS) picked up the first goal of his career to open the scoring in the 18th minute off a feed from fellow sophomore
Zakariah Hall (Wells, England/The Blue School).
Hall then found sophomore striker
Kyle Clifford (West Seneca, NY/St. Francis HS) who put home his first of two on the day in the 30th minute. Clifford's second goal came later in the half in the 39th minute and was unassisted. For Clifford, the game was his third of the season with multiple tallies as he continues to pace the Daemen offense with nine total goals.
Daemen took a 3-0 lead into halftime after dominating much of the action. They out-shot the Hawks 14-4 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks in the half.
Freshman
Stephen Linderman (Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda High School) recorded his first career goal in the 69th minute with the assist going to Clifford. Linderman now has a goal and an assist in his first two tilts as a collegiate player after missing the team's first three games with an injury.
Hall would round out the scoring in the 80th minute when he scored off a corner kick.
Freshman
Matt Daddario (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home HS) picked up his second straight shutout in goal and needed to make just two saves to do so.
The Wildcats are idle until they face Medaille College, a highly touted D-III team next Tuesday at Robert Rich All-High Stadium at 6pm.
