Box Score RIO GRANDE, OH - The Daemen Wildcats fell to 0-2-0 on the young season today after dropping a 6-0 decision to the host Rio Grande Red Storm at Evan E. Davis Field this afternoon. With the win, the Red Storm, ranked #5 in the latest NAIA National Poll, upped their record to 3-1-0.
The Wildcats had no answer for midfielder Maximiliano Viera who recorded a hat trick for the Red Storm. Viera put his team ahead 2-0 with goals in the 21st and 23rd minutes before adding a third marker in the 56th minute.
The Red Storm also got a flurry of single tallies from Brodie Steigerwald (62nd minute), Luiz Filho (63rd minute) and Caio Cruz (64th minute) to provide the final margin.
The Red Storm launched 35 shots, placing 24 of them on frame. Daemen goalkeeper Matt Daddrio (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home HS) was credited with 13 saves in the game.
Daemen's offense failed to generate many scoring chances as they managed just three total shots, none of which were put on goal. All three came from junior striker
Kyle Clifford (West Seneca, NY/St. Francis HS) who saw his first action of the season after missing the opener with an injury.
Daemen will be back in action next Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they travel to Rochester, NY to take on the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks.
