Queens Tops Women's Tennis

FLUSHING, N.Y. - An upset wasn't in the cards for the Daemen College women's tennis team today as the Wildcats dropped an 8-1 decision to East Coast Conference powerhouse Queens College.

Queens, who was picked to finish second in the league this season according to the ECC preseason poll released last month, picked up the win in their season opener. For Daemen, the Wildcats fall to 1-1 overall and in the league, taking a split of this weekend's road trip which included a 9-0 shutout victory yesterday at Molloy.

Junior Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) was the lone bright spot for the Wildcats.  Hollins improved to 2-0 in singles play this season, winning her match in the No. 1 slot versus Queens' Sumeera Kamil, a Division I transfer from Alcorn State University.  Hollins won a hotly-contested bout with Kamil, 7-5, 7-5.

Daemen returns to action with a pair of non-conference matches next weekend, visiting SUNY Oswego (Saturday, September 12) and Thiel University (Sunday, September 13).
