Men's Soccer Visits Pitt-Johnstown Tuesday

THE LEAD
The Daemen College men's soccer team plays its fourth road game of the month on Tuesday when they visit University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown...it'll mark the fourth straight season that the Wildcats and Mountain Cats have met on the pitch, and Daemen's fourth game against a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference member this season.

ON THE SIDELINES
Daemen: Bobby McColl enters his first season at the helm for Daemen after spending the last three seasons as the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Roberts Wesleyan College...McColl's tenure at Roberts Wesleyan notably came during that program's ascent to the NCAA Division II level of competition, compiling a 35-20-5 record in that span, including a 12-5-3 mark last season in which McColl led the Redhawks to an apparance in the East Coast Conference Tournament finals and at-large berth in the NCAA Division II National Championships....prior to his time in Rochester, McColl served for one season as the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Greenville College (Ill.), leading that NCAA Division III program to a 10-6-3 mark and a second-place finish in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference...a native of Glasgow, Scotland, McColl came stateside to compete collegiately, playing three season at Union University (Tenn.) before finishing his career at Trinity International University (Ill.).
   
DAEMEN SCOUTING REPORT (2-11-0, 0-6-0 ECC)
Daemen returns 13 players from last year's team that finished 2-13-1 overall and 0-9-1 in the East Coast Conference…first-year head coach Bobby McColl returns the team's top two scorers and starting goalkeeper from last year...…sophomore Kyle Tracy and senior Alex Reid shared the team lead in scoring last season, both posting 10 points....Tracy's point total came on his team-leading five goals...Reid has scored 13 goals in his career and totaled 33 points heading into his final season for the Wildcats...sophomore net-minder Justin Figler played every second of every game last season as a true freshman, finishing second in the ECC with 88 saves...also back is senior forward Cole Beale who notched a team-high five goals and 11 points in 2014…in the midfield, Daemen returns a pair of veterans in Nick Sammarco and Logan Podrebarac...Sammarco has made 34 starts in his career to date while Podrebarac started in 14 of his 15 appearances last season while posting five points...senior Austin Stephany returns to anchor the Wildcat defense...he's made 30 appearances in the last two seasons, including 29 starts, since transferring from Division I Buffalo...newcomers who are expected to make an immediate impact include senior forward Colin Edwards, a transfer from Tiffin University, and freshmen backs Kyle White and Joe Keem...Daemen was picked 10th in the 2016 ECC preseason poll...Daemen snapped a six-game slide with last Friday's 6-1 non-conference win over Washington Adventist...freshman forward Ali Shawish scored three goals while classmates Chris Ellis and Connor Pendleton also found the back of the net, as did senior Cole Beale...Beale's goal was the 11th of his career...Shawish's "hat trick" was the first for a Daemen player since 2013...he leads the team with six goals and 13 points this season...Shawish ranks seventh in goals and eighth in points among ECC players...Figler has made 11 starts between the pipes, and he ranks third among ECC goalkeepers with 42 total saves...he posted the second shutout of his career in a 1-0 win over D'Youville on Sept. 11...the Wildcats are coming off a 4-0 loss to District of Columbia in ECC action last Saturday.
   
PITT-JOHNSTOWN SCOUTING REPORT (3-8-0, 1-6-0 PSAC)
UPJ is a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference...head coach Eric Kinsey is in his 16th season at the helm...the Mountain Cats' three wins this season are the team's most since going 7-9 in 2011...UPJ was picked 12th in the PSAC preseason poll after posting a 1-17 overall record last season...among the team's returners is junior back Brandon Robinson who tied for the team lead with eight points (4 gls) last season...also back is sophomore midfielder D.J. Vogelman who scored three times and added an assist (7 pts) in his first collegiate campaign...junior goalkeeper Nate Kleya also returns after leading the PSAC in total saves last season...Kleya's 126 stops were 57 more than the next player on the leaderboard...after opening the season with just one win in their first eight contests, the Mountain Cats have gone 2-1 over their last three...they've picked up non-league wins over Shepherd (4-2) and Washington Adventist (3-2 - 2OT) recently...the four goal-output in the win over Shepherd was UPJ's first game with at least that many tallies since a 5-1 win over Washington Adventist on Oct. 2, 2015...the seven-goal output over the two contests is the most for the Mountain Cats since producing 10 goals in the opening two games of the 2011 season...UPJ is coming off a 6-1 loss to Lock Haven this past Saturday...sophomore forward Haven Mackie leads the Mountain Cats with four goals and 10 points this season...redshirt-senior forward Colin Michalski has chipped in offensively with three goals...both Mackie and Michalski scored in the wins over Shepherd and Washington Adventist, with Michalski netting the "golden goal" vs. the Shock...Kleya has played every minute of the season in goal, and he again leads the PSAC in total saves (97).
