Men's Tennis Returns Home To Host ECC Favorites

Wildcats Looking To Upset NYIT For First League Win Of The Season

THE SERVE: The Daemen College men's tennis team returns home for the first time since early March to play host to N.Y. Institute of Technology in an East Coast Conference dual-match.

  • Daemen returns 11 players from its 2014-15 roster which achieved an overall record of 7-16, including a 1-5 mark in East Coast Conference play
  • In addition to the returners, the Wildcats welcome four fresh faces to the mix this season
  • The Wildcats were voted tied for fifth in the ECC preseason poll released in late January
  • The Wildcats went 1-2 in dual matches during their abbreviated fall season, closing with a 9-0 shutout of Houghton
  • Daemen snapped a 13-match skid last weekend and have won two straight matches heading into Saturday's showdown with NYIT
  • The skid-halting 6-1 defeat of Coppin State last Friday evening was also Daemen's first-ever wn against an NCAA Division I opponent
  • The Wildcats followed that up with a tight 5-4 win at University of the Sciences this past Sunday which snapped a string of seven consecutive losses in matches decided by three points or less
  • For his efforts, redshirt-freshman Andrew LeMar was named the ECC Rookie of the Week after going 2-1 in singles play, while adding a doubles victory as well in the match against Coppin State
  • Daemen has dropped six matches to NCAA Tournament teams from last season
  • Sophomore Mark Veitengruber, the team's MVP a season ago, leads the team with 12 singles victories, while Lemar ranks second with 10 wins
  • Freshman David Gonzalez Villegas returned recently after recovering from an injury, and his presence has lengthened the Wildcat lineup; he is 3-3 in singles play since returning
  • In doubles play, junior John LeMar leads the team with nine victories while Joey Gentile, Gregory Lowe and Andrew LeMar all have eight
