Daemen Returns To Dual-Match Play Saturday

THE LEAD
The Daemen College women's tennis team looks to jump back in the win column when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College for an East Coast Conference dual-match this weekend...an announcement was made earlier this week moving the match indoors to the Midtown Athletic Club due to anticipated rain showers in the area.

ON THE SIDELINES
Daemen: Stephen Beatty enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Wildcats...over the course of his first three seasons, Beatty has guided the Daemen women's tennis team to a 24-46 record...a former collegiate player at Division II Northwood University (Mich.) and Division III D'Youville College, Beatty got his coaching start as an assistant to Kelly Brown, serving for one season - Daemen's inaugural season of tennis competition - before being promoted to the top post.
   
DAEMEN SCOUTING REPORT (2-4, 0-2 ECC)
Daemen returns seven players from last year's team that tied the program record for overall wins after finishing 8-16 overall and 1-6 in the East Coast Conference...among the returners are the duo of seniors Hayle Scanlan and Karli Hollins...Scanlan enters the season already ranking as the Wildcats' all-time leader in singles victories (33), total singles matches (76), doubles victories (33) and total doubles matches (77)...Hollins went 13-9 in singles play and 17-9 in doubles play, tying teammate Gretchen Ringler's single-season record for singles victories, and establishing a new program record for doubles wins...Ringler, who set the singles record as a freshman in 2014-15, is also back after earning nine more singles wins last season...that tied her for third on the team with fellow returners Jessica Robins and Delaney Fragale...Daemen was picked seventh in the ECC preseason poll...five of Daemen's six matches this season have been decided by three points or less...the Wildcats are 0-2 in their most recent dual-matches, falling to U. Sciences (5-4) and Roberts Wesleyan (6-3)...Daemen is coming off their first tournament action of the season which came at the Bloomsburg Invitational last weekend...Scanlan and Shaylah Iverson share the team lead with five singles victories so far this season, while Robins has posted an even 4-4 mark as well...in doubles play, Daemen owns a 14-16 mark as a team, including 10-8 in dual-match play...Ringler leads the way individually with five doubles wins, while Fragale, Iverson, Robins and Scanlan each have four....the Wildcats' top pair thus far has been Ringler and Scanlan as they've produced a 3-2 record together.
   
ST. THOMAS AQUINAS SCOUTING REPORT (3-4, 1-3 ECC)
The Spartans returns seven players from last season's squad which went 8-7 overall and 3-4 in East Coast Conference play...the three league wins placed STAC just one why of the conference tournament picture, finishing in fifth place behind the final tournament qualifier, fourth-place LIU Post (4-3 ECC)...among the returners is senior Shannon Biehle who posted a singles record of 9-6 and a doubles mark of 8-7 to lead the Spartans in both singles and doubles wins last year...eight of her singles wins came in the fifth singles position...the Spartans also return senior Bianca Signore who led the team with 11 appearances in the first singles position, posting a 4-7 record there as part of her 6-9 campaign overall...junior Sara O'Brien also returns after posting an even 8-8 mark in singles play, including a 7-5 record in the third singles position...STAC was picked sixth in the ECC preseason poll...after starting the year with one win in their first five matches, the Spartans have rebounded to win two straight, including an 8-1 defeat of Molloy in ECC play on Sept. 17...STAC is coming off a 7-2 non-league win over Caldwell, and they'll face Roberts Wesleyan on Friday before taking on the Wildcats on Saturday...the Spartans have posted an 18-24 mark in singles play and an 11-10 mark in doubles action heading into this weekend...junior Carolyn Kopf leads a balanced effort with a 4-3 singles mark, while five other players have registered at least two singles wins...O'Brien and fellow returner Raven DeLeon are each 3-3 thus far...in doubles play, O'Brien has teamed with Signore to go 4-3 with all seven appearances coming in the first doubles position.
