McColl heads into the 2017 season with a career coaching record of 47-41-8 with previous stops as the head men's coach at Greenville College (2012) and the head women's coach at Roberts Wesleyan College (2013-15). McCoy recently sat down for a video interview to preview his team's 2017 season. WILDCATS PICKED 10TH IN ECC PRESEASON POLL Following a vote of the league's head coaches, Daemen has been picked to finish 10th in the East Coast Conference this season. The Wildcats went 2-15 overall and 0-9 in league play last season. LIU Post, which has won four of the last five ECC titles, was voted as the unanimous favorite this season, and the Pioneers open the year ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II preseason poll. NEWCOMERS GALORE The biggest storyline heading into the 2017 season for Daemen is the number of new players on the roster, 24 of them to be exact, including 22 freshmen. Of the newcomers, nine hail from European countries, bringing the team's total number of international student-athletes to 11 - the most in team history. Freshman Niklas Ringdahl Bohlin, a 6-foot midfielder, has been impressive enough in preseason training camp to have earned co-captain honors. Graduate student Ross Stewart. who played in 32 of a possible 35 games over two seasons at Davis & Elkins College, brings experience at the Division II level to Daemen's defense. Up front, look for an immediate impact from freshman striker Kristian Aadnoy. And between the pipes, its been a three-way battle in training camp between freshmen Mitchell Coll, Jarrett Lecceadone and Mike D'Amato. REID RETURNS The Daemen lineup got a boost with the return of red-shirt senior forward Alex Reid in their season opener Thursday vs. Le Moyne. Reid, who has totaled 13 goals, seven assists and 33 points in 48 games played during his career, missed all of the 2016 season due to injury. Three of Reid's tallies have been of the game-winning variety, including two in wins over rival Roberts Wesleyan. LONG LIVE LOGAN Red-shirt senior midfielder Logan Podrebarac also returns after being limited to just eight appearances last season due to injury. Podrebarac has been a constant fixture in the Wildcats' lineup since transferring from Tiffin University prior to the 2014 season. In three season donning the Daemen blue and white, Podrebarac has appeared in 36 games while making 29 starts. SLOW START Three goals allowed in the opening 13 minutes of Thursday's season opener spelled doom for the Wildcats as they dropped a 3-1 decision to regional powerhouse Le Moyne. Freshman midfielder Niklas Ringdahl Bohlin put Daemen on the board when he scored on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute, and a flurry of activity in the final eight minutes nearly brought the Wildcats closer. Le Moyne, which started seven returning players including the reigning Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Year Ben Beaury, finished the 2016 season as the No. 4 ranked team in the East Region. Daemen started just one player - red-shirt junior midfielder Shaquille Corrica - who was on its 2016 roster, while nine of the remaining 10 starters were freshmen. ASSUMPTION SCOUTING REPORT Assumption is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference, and the Greyhounds are coached by D.J. Corrao who is entering his fourth season at the helm. The Greyhounds are coming off their best season in the last five years as they posted a 7-10-1 overall record and a 6-6-1 mark in conference play in 2016. The Greyhounds' six conference wins were good enough for them to earn their first NE-10 Conference Tournament berth since 2009. It was an impressive turn around for the Assumption program which had gone just 2-12-4 in 2015. The Greyhounds return a pair of second-team All-NE-10 performers in sophomores Jason Lages and Simon Trcka. Lages paced the Greyhounds with nine goals and 20 total points, and was one of just eight NE-10 players to reach the 20-point plateau. Trcka notched five goals, including four game-winners, six assists and 16 total points. In goal, Assumption returns sophomore Brian Murray who played all but 23 minutes between the pipes for them last season while posting a 1.66 goals-against average and a .728 save percentage. Assumption was picked seventh in the NE-10 preseason poll.
