DAEMEN INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT - DAY 2 RESULTS
DAEMEN INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT - DAY 1 RECAP

AMHERST, N.Y. - Nearly 12 hours of collegiate tennis action wrapped up after 9 p.m. on day two of the Daemen Invitational Tournament today. The Daemen College women's tennis team, which had five players advance with wins in their respective quarterfinal round matches yesterday, did not experience the same success rate today.

The tournament features eight competing teams - Daemen, Roberts Wesleyan College, Millersville University, Clarion University, Niagara University, Colgate University, Allegheny College and Rochester Institute of Technology - and it runs through this Sunday, Sept. 17.

Matches today included singles and doubles action. The tournament features seven draws for singles play, which were color coded as follows: red (No. 1), orange (No. 2), yellow, (No. 3), green (No. 4), blue (No. 5), indigo (No. 6) and violet (No. 6+). Doubles draws included the following: Wimbledon (No. 1), U.S. Open (No. 2), French (No. 3) and Aussie (No. 4).

Today's action started with doubles matches. In the U.S. Open draw, Daemen's Giovanna Paschoalin (Sao Caetano Do Sul, Brazil) and Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) opened with an 8-5 loss in the quarterfinal round to Niagara's Ali Hutchinson and Andreea Peteu, but the Daemen duo later picked up a consolation round victory (8-0) over Millersville's Megan Rovenolt and Kelley Hershey. They were the lone doubles team to pick up a win for the Wildcats today.

In singles play, Daemen players could not move past the semifinal round of their respective draws. Paschoalin fell in the orange draw semis to Mackenzie Deeter of Colgate (6-1, 6-1). Senior Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) withdrew from the yellow draw giving Colgate's Lauren O'Brien a walkover victory in tomorrow's finals. In the green singles draw, Stasiuk fell to Hutchinson despite taking the Division I athlete to three sets (6-2, 6-7, 1-0). Junior Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) suffered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Colgate's Kelly Klein in the blue draw semis. And, junior Morgan Park (Hamburg, N.Y.) bowed out of the indigo draw semis with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to RIT's Kristen Zablonski.
