FULL RESULTS
HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's cross country team took part in the Highlander Invitational on the campus of Houghton College today. The Wildcats placed eighth out of 11 schools at the 6,000-meter race. Daemen was making its first appearance at this event since 2013.
Nationally-ranked SUNY Geneseo claimed the team title, as the Knights placed five runners among the top 13 finishers and totaled 38 points. SUNY Geneseo entered the weekend ranked second in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III poll. Rochester Institute of Technology placed second with 53 points, while SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (60), Houghton College (118) and Fredonia State (136) rounded out the top five.
Senior Marissa Lathrop of SUNY ESF took home the individual champion honors, as she completed the race in a time of 24:40.3. She edged out Carissa DiTulla of Geneseo (24:48.4) by eight seconds.
Freshmen Sarah Golas (Alden, N.Y.), redshirt freshman Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ontario) and sophomore Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.) paced the Wildcats this afternoon. Golas finished first among Daemen runners for the first time this season, as she placed 28th with a time of 27:00.4. Nolet came in right behind Golas, as she posted a person-best time for a 6K event (27:04.3) and placed 29th. Warner, who had placed first among Daemen runners in the first three races this season, crossed the finish line in 33rd place with a time of 27:20.2.
Sophomores Taya Mucha (Lockport, N.Y.) and Ashley Dusza (Alden, N.Y.) rounded out the Daemen scorers today. Mucha placed 66th (29:28.4), while Dusza came in 70th (29:47.2).
Junior Shania LiVecchi (West Seneca, N.Y.), sophomore Mackenzie Tubbs (Elmira, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Amanda Bushway (East Aurora, N.Y.) also competed for the Wildcats. LiVecchi placed 90th (31:43.0), Tubbs finished 91st (32:05.0) and Bushway placed 93rd (32:15.2). Tubbs was making her first appearance of the season after running in six of seven races last year, while Bushway was making her program debut after transferring to Daemen from Ithaca College.
Daemen returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 13) when it takes part in the Canisius Alumni Classic hosted by the Canisius College in Buffalo's Delaware Park.
