Women's Cross Country 11/3/2018 12:31:00 PM By Tom McDermott, Sports Information Consultant Women's Cross Country Places Fourth At Conference Championship Meet FULL RESULTS ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Sophomore Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.), freshman Sarah Golas (Alden, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) all recorded top-20 finishes to lead the Daemen College women's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the East Coast Conference Championships held this morning on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College. Daemen, which had placed among the top three each the previous three seasons, accumulated 113 points in the team standings. Roberts Wesleyan, which is the top-ranked team in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Region poll, posted the lowest possible score (15) en route to its fifth-straight ECC Championship. The top eight runners to cross the finish line represented the host Redhawks. St. Thomas Aquinas College placed second with a team score of 66. Long Island University Post (104) edged out Daemen for third place, while New York Institute of Technology (140) rounded out the top-five. Sophomore Ashley Watson of Roberts Wesleyan paced the field of 78 runners today, as she completed the 5,000-meter race in a time of 19:02.3. Watson, who earned ECC Rookie of the Year honors last fall, was crowned ECC Runner of the Year by virtue of winning today's race. Watson held off teammate Brittany Shumway by just three seconds to claim medalist honors, while RWC freshman Abigail Gostomski edged out her sister Bailey Gostomski for ECC Rookie of the Year honors. Abigail placed third overall with a time of 19:18.4, just 3/10 of a second ahead of her sister. Warner finished first among Daemen runners for the fifth time this season, as she placed 17th with a time of 20:22.7. It is the second-straight year she has posted a top-20 finish at the ECC Championships, as last year she finished 16th with a time of 19:57.8. She narrowly missed earning all-conference honors for the second-straight year as well. The top-seven runners earn first-team All-ECC, while eighth through 14 earn second-team honors. Warner came just seven seconds shy of 14th place. Golas posted the same time (20:43.1) she recorded on this same course back in September during the Harry F. Anderson Invitational. Her time was fourth best among freshmen competing today and good enough for 19th overall. Nolet came in just six seconds behind Golas and placed 20th with a time of 20:49.6. That time was eight seconds better than her previous personal-best time for a 5K race (20:57.9) that she set at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational six weeks ago. Sophomores Taya Mucha (Lockport, N.Y.) and Ashley Dusza (Alden, N.Y.) rounded out the Daemen scorers today. Mucha established a new personal-best time of 21:28.8 and placed 32nd overall. Her previous personal-best time of 21:37.5 came at last year's ECC Championship. Dusza placed 38th with a time of 21:51.3, which was just eight seconds shy of her season-best time for a 5K race (21:43.6) she set at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational. Redshirt freshman Amanda Bushway (East Aurora, N.Y.) and sophomore Mackenzie Tubbs (Elmira, N.Y.) also competed for the Wildcats. Bushway finished 45th (23:14.3), while Tubbs finished 47th (23:21.2). Bushway, who missed the first three races of the year, topped her previous personal-best time (23:57.1) that she set three weeks ago at the Canisius Alumni Classic. Daemen is idle until Nov. 17 when it will take part in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship. The race will be hosted by Adelphi University and take place at Bethpage State Park in Bethpage, N.Y..
