Women's Track & Field Earns 12 All-Conference Honors By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications Women's Track & Field | 5/3/2018 3:51:00 PM AMHERST, N.Y. - Veterans Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y.) and Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y.), and rookies Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.) and Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.) of the Daemen College women's track and field team were each named first team All-East Coast Conference honorees for the 2018 outdoor season today in a release from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. The quartet of first team honorees were joined by five additional athletes - Sydney McDonough (Alfred Station, N.Y.), Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y.), Sam Carro (Canandaigua, N.Y.), Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y.) and Hannah Miller (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) - who were named second team All-ECC honorees. The selection of All-ECC athletes is based on individual finishes at the ECC Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet which was hosted by Daemen on April 21 at Williamsville South High School; individuals finishing first and second in their respective events earn first team All-ECC honors, while third and fourth place finishers earn second team All-ECC accolades. Trabert, a senior long distance specialist, opened the meet by placing first in the 10,000 meters with a time of 40:58.53. It marked the second time in Trabert's career that she had won an individual ECC championship at that distance. She would go on to place third in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:00.98, earning second team All-ECC honors in that event. It's also the second straight season that Trabert has earned all-conference honors in multiple events after being a second team performer in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters last season. The awards doled out today give her five all-conference nods in her outdoor track and field career. Haude, who was named the team's MVP last week, placed first in the pole vault to earn first team All-ECC honors, the third straight season that a Daemen athlete has won the event. The Daemen sophomore cleared 3.05 meters on her first attempt to claim this season's crown. Haude was also the ECC pole vault champion and a USTFCCCA All-Region honoree during the indoor season earlier this year. Daemen's third individual ECC champion is Meyer who claimed the triple jump crown and the first all-conference nod of her outdoor track and field career. Her leap of 10.59 meters, which was lbeaten by teammate Carrie Akin (Akron, N.Y.) later in the month, set a new team record at the time, shattering the prior mark of 10.14 meters set by Ashley Krol in 2014. Meyer is a dual-sport athlete who also competes for the Daemen women's soccer team. Warner, who also competes for the Daemen women's cross country team, also claimed the first all-conference honor of her outdoor track and field career, doing so by virtue of her second place finish in the 800 meter run. The middle distance specialist came across the finish line in 2:21.37, just one second off the pace set by race winner Alexandria Okon (2:20.45) of Long Island University Post. Among second team All-ECC honorees, both Denton and Miller earned the honor in two events. Denton, a senior long distance runner, placed third in the 1,500 meters (4:50.00) and fourth in the 5,000 meters (19:05.12). The two all-conference nods doubles her career total for the outdoor season, and they were her first as an individual since 2014. She had previously been a first team honoree for her part on the Wildcats' first place finishing 4x800 meter relay team in 2015, and a second team honoree for the 800 meters as a freshman in 2014. Miller, a sophomore thrower, earned a third place finish in the hammer throw (37.36 meters) and a fourth place finish in the discus throw (29.11) to grab her first all-conference accolades for the outdoor season. She becomes the first Daemen thrower with all-conference honors during the outdoor season since both Emily Johnson and Ellory Roberts did so in 2016. Kress placed third in the pole vault giving the Wildcats two all-conference honorees in that event for the second straight season. Kress earned first team All-ECC honors after winning the pole vault competition in both the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Additional second team honors came on the track as McDonough placed fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.05, and Carro placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.06 seconds. Today's announcement marked the first all-conference nod during the outdoor season for McDonough, a junior sprinter. Her classmate Carro earned second team honors for the second straight year in the 100 meter hurdles. The 12 total all-conference performances represent a new program high. The Wildcats earned eight all-conference honors in both 2016 and 2017. Daemen's 2018 season continues next week with the Allegheny Gator Invite in Meadville, Pa. The May 11 meet represents the final chance for Daemen athletes to achieve automatic or provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships which takes place May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C.
