HOUGHTON INDOOR  MEET  — FULL RESULTS

HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's track and field team opened its 2021-22 indoor season by taking part in the Houghton Indoor Meet held this evening on the campus of Houghton College.

School-record efforts by junior Dominic Clementi (Barker, N.Y.) in the 600 meters and senior Erik Matthews (Galway, N.Y.) in the 60 meter hurdles highlighted the track portion of the event for Daemen, while the field events saw senior Henry Moffitt (Sydney, Australia) tie his own school record in the high jump and set a new school record in the triple jump.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Clementi ran the 600 meters for just the second time in his career and finished third out of 19 runners with a school-record time of 1:25.01—narrowly eclipsing the previous record of 1:25.93 set by Alonzo Rodriguez Spencer at the Highlander Invitational in 2018.
  • Matthews actually set the school-record in the 60 meter hurdles twice tonight. He posted a time of 9.07 seconds in the preliminary round and then followed up with a time of 8.92 seconds in the finals—good enough for fifth place. The previous school-record of 9.40 seconds was set by Zach Laird at the Highlander Invitational in 2018. Matthews also took part in the long jump and placed 11th out of 28 athletes with a personal-best leap of 6.25 meters.
  • Sophomore Jon Moote (Wilson, N.Y.) ran the 3,000 meters for the first time in his brief career and placed seventh of of 24 runners with a time of 9:20.09—which ranks as the fourth fastest time in that event in program history.
  • Senior Zach Brainard (Lancaster, N.Y.) took part in the 300 meters for the first time in his career and placed eighth out the 15 runners with a time of 39.03—which ranks as the fifth fastest time in program history.
  • Moffitt now owns the Daemen indoor and outdoor record for both the high jump and triple jump. He equaled his own record in the high jump, as he tied for second place out of 11 athletes with a leap of 1.89 meters. He originally set the record at the RIT Invitational in 2020. He then placed fourth out of seven athletes in the triple jump with a leap of 12.61 meters—breaking the previous school record of 12.54 meters set by Alex Reid at the 2014 Golden Eagle Invite. Moffitt also took part in the long jump and placed 10th out of 28 athletes with a leap of 6.30 meters.
  • Sophomore Hessen Bahgat (Fredonia, N.Y.) and freshman Jake Elias (Depew, N.Y.) also posted top ten efforts tonight. Bahgat placed sixth out of 18 athletes in the pole vault with a personal-best score of 3.75 meters—which ranks as the second best effort in that event in program history. Elias competed in the shot put and weight throw in his first collegiate meet and placed sixth out of 26 throwers in the shot put with a toss of 11.19 meters.
