UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO TWILIGHT INVITATIONAL — FULL RESULTS

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's track and field team took part in the University at Buffalo Twilight Invitational this afternoon and placed second out of four teams. The event was held at UB Stadium on the UB North campus. Daemen was the lone non-Division team in the field, which consisted of Buffalo, Daemen, Siena College and Canisius College.

It marked third time this season that the Wildcats have taken part in an event host by UB. Daemen took part in the UB Invitational this past Saturday and placed fifth out of 14 teams.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Graduate student Sullivan Keller (Alden, N.Y.) and redshirt sophomore Erik Matthews (Galway, N.Y.) both turned in record-breaking performances for the Wildcats this afternoon.
  • Keller broke his own school record in the shot put, as he placed fourth out of six entrants with a toss of 15.06 meters. The effort topped his previous school record effort of 14.81 meters he produced last month during the University at Buffalo Mid-Week Invitational. Keller set the mark on his final throw today. He also took part in the hammer throw and javelin today. He posted a throw of 45.40 meters in the hammer throw and a toss of 50.91 meters in the javelin.
  • Matthews broke the school record in the 400 meter hurdles and the 110 meter hurdles. He broke his own record in the 400 meter hurdles, which he set last weekend during the University at Buffalo Invitational. Matthews and teammate John Bruggman (Batavia, N.Y.) were the only two entrants in the 400 meter hurdles and Matthews finished first with a time of 58.08—besting his previous school record of 58.65. He ran the 110 meter hurdles for the first time in his career and set a new school record with a time of 17.25 seconds. It marked just the third time in program history that a Daemen runner has taken part in the 110 meter hurdles. Zach Laird ran it the previous two times, posting a 17.53 in 2017 and a 17.79 in 2018. Matthews would also take part in the triple jump for the first time in his career and posted a leap of 11.85 meters, which ranks as the best effort in the triple jump for Daemen this spring.
  • Freshman Jon Moote (Wilson, N.Y.) turned in solid efforts in both the 1,500 meter and 5,000 meter run. He placed first out of four Daemen runners in the 1,500 meters and sixth out of 18 overall runners with a personal best time of 4:12.49. He would make his first collegiate appearance in the 5,000 meters and place first among five Daemen runners (19th overall) with a time of 16:15.10.
  • Freshman Steven Blatto (Lancaster, N.Y.) also turned in a strong effort in the 5,000 meters—placing second among Daemen runners and 28th overall with a personal best time of 17:03.83.
  • Sophomore Dominic Clementi (Barker, N.Y.), who came close to breaking the school-record in the 800 meters last weekend, placed fourth out of 12 runners in the 800 meters today with a time of 2:04.62. He also ran the 5,000 meters for the first time in his career and posted a time of 17:24.84.
  • Junior Zach Brainard (Lancaster, N.Y.) took part in three events today. He ran the 100 meter dash for the first time in his career and posted a time of 12.59 seconds. He also competed in the long jump (5.24 meters) and the triple jump (11.47 meters).
  • Junior Henry Moffitt (Sydney, Australia) competed in three events and posted a personal best effort in the long jump. He placed second out of four in the long jump with a leap of 6.38 meters. He also took part in the high jump (1.82 meters) and the triple jump (11.82 meters).
  • Freshman Hessen Bahgat (Fredonia, N.Y.) posted a personal best effort in both the pole vault (3.75 meters) and the javelin (33.06 meters).
