BACK IN ACTION

Daemen hosts Lock Haven of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSCA) in a non-conference match Wednesday (Oct. 19) afternoon. The game was originally set to be played at Karrer Field on the campus of The Park School in Amherst, but was moved to the athletic stadium at Williamsville South High School. The start time for the game has also been moved up to 12 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
S
enior Derek Bartlo (Williamsville, N.Y.) scored twice and graduate student Carlos Espana (Madrid, Spain) added a goal and an assist to lead Daemen to a 6-1 victory over D'Youville this past Saturday. Daemen snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 5-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the East Coast Conference. Daemen opened the scoring just nine seconds into the game. Bartlo took a pass from junior Michel Holscher (Hamminkein, Gremany) off the opening kickoff and beat D'Youville goalkeeper Ethan Picard for what most likely is the fastest goal Daemen has ever scored in the history of the program. The Wildcats took control with two goals in the span of one minute 14 minutes later. The Saints were charged with an own goal at 14:18 when a defender deflected a cross by Daemen freshman Cody Cavuoto (Rochester, N.Y.) into the D'Youville net. Espana then netted an unassisted tally at 15:22 to give Daemen a 3-0 lead. Bartlo notched his second of the game with just under five minutes to play in the first half and the hosts took a 4-0 lead into halftime. The Wildcats scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Junior Dennis Montero Guerrero (Weingarten, Germany) scored off a nice feed from freshman Sujan Rajamohan (Spencerport, N.Y.) and 50:15 and Cavuoto closed out the Daemen scoring off a feed from Espana at 54:53. The Saints denied Daemen the shutout when freshman Aaron Baffour scored in the 59th minute. Daemen posted a 24-12 advantage in shots overall and a 14-4 edge in shots on goal. Graduate student Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) started in net for Daemen and made three saves before giving way to freshman Harry Firth (Reading, England) in the 78th minute.

SENSATIONAL SENIOR
Senior Derek Bartlo (Williamsville, N.Y.) scored three goals last week and ranks sixth among the ECC leaders in goals (7) and fifth in points (17). His seven goals and 17 points are the most by a Daemen player since Noah Keem put up nine goals and 22 points during the 2017 season.

ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Daemen's six goals in the win over D'Youville tied the program record for most goals in a game during the program's NCAA Division II era (2015-present)..

GETTING DEFENSIVE
Daemen has limited nine of its first 13 opponents to one goal or less.

ON THE HORIZON
Daemen hosts another PSAC member this Saturday (Oct. 22) when the Wildcats welcome Slippery Rock University
.

SCOUTING THE BALD EAGLES
Lock Haven is the third PSAC school the Wildcats have played this season. The Bald Eagles are 1-3-1 over their last four games and are coming off a 3-2 loss at Bloomsburg this past Saturday. LHU went 13-4-2 last year and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Bald Eagles lost to Post (4-1) in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. They were picked third in the 2022 PSAC East preseason coaches' poll. LHU has scored 28 goals so far this season. Sophomore Samuel Hershey scored three times in an early-season win over D'Youville and has totaled a team-high nine goals and 21 points. Additional offense has come from sophomores Connor Swope (5 gls, 3 asts)), Dean Lewis (4 gls, 3 asts) and Austion Kravetz (4 gls). Redshirt senior Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz has started 13 games in goal and owns a 1.23 goals against average and three solo shutouts.
