BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Daemen University women's cross country team finished 31st out of 35 teams at the prestigious Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday afternoon. One of the most prestigious cross country meets in the country, the Paul Short Run featured 10 races on Saturday and hosted over 4,000 runners at the meet.
FULL RESULTS
The Wildcats finished with a team score of 757 in the Women's College Brown division featuring Division I and Division II schools. The University of New Hampshire placed their top five runners in the top 35 to win the meet today with a team score of 103. James Madison University's Katherine Lawson paced the race with a first-place finish of 21:02.5.
Graduate student
Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.) finished 60th out of 303 runners with a 6K PR time of 22:47.9. Merrill, who set a 5K personal best last weekend at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational, shaved four seconds off her previous 6K PR (22:51.1) set at the 2022 East Region Championships.
Graduate student
Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) finished second on the team with a time of 23:36.8 to place 146th overall. Junior
Christa Oates (Tonawanda, N.Y.) set her fourth personal record of the season, finishing 173rd with a PR time of 23:51.9.
Senior
Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) was the fourth Wildcat across the line and finished with a 6K PR time of 24:26.5, good for 209th overall. Grzebinski shaved 25 seconds off her previous PR (25:01.8), set at the 2022 Highlander Invitational. Freshman
Lia Brasacchio (Victor, N.Y.) rounded out the Daemen scorers with a time of 24:33.6 to place 215
th overall in her first career 6K.
Junior
Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) finished sixth on the team with a time of 24:48.7 to place 226th. Senior
Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) and
Kylie Piekarski (Lancaster, N.Y.) battled it out to the finish line. Cain placed 255th with a time of 25:40.6 to finish seventh on the team, while Piekarski, running in her first career 6K, finished with a time of 25:40.7, one millisecond behind Cain in a photo finish to place 256th overall. Junior
Hayley Pizur (Grand Island, N.Y.) finished with a time of 26:22.8 (269th).
The Wildcats are idle next week but return to the course on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the annual Canisius Alumni Classic held at Buffalo's Delaware Park.
