AMHERST, N.Y. -- Daemen University track and field sophomore CJ Johnson (Baltimore, MD) picked up the first East Coast Conference weekly track and field award of the season for the Wildcats this week as he was tabbed the ECC Track Athlete of the Week after a stellar showing at the UB Alumni Invitational on Friday night.

Johnson is the first member of the Wildcats to earn a weekly award since his teammate Jon Moote (Wilson, N.Y.) was tabbed the ECC Men's Outdoor Track Co-Athlete of the Week back on April 8, 2024.

Against Division I competition from Buffalo, Niagara, LeMoyne, and Canisius, Johnson placed 11th out of 34 runners in the 800m with a time of 1:59.41. Johnson also made history for Daemen as he finished the 1500m with a school-record time of 4:03.48, placing 10th out of 34 runners with the fifth-fastest time in the ECC this season. Johnson ended the meet on a high note by anchoring the 4x400m relay that placed third in a field of seven (3:36.66).

The Wildcats and Johnson will compete again at the 2025 East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be hosted by Roberts Wesleyan, on May 1 at 9 a.m. at Roberts Stadium.
