AMHERST, N.Y. - Sophomores
Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) and
Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) won their respective races to pace the Daemen College men's track and field team today at the Alfred State College Meet.
The meet, which was a scored event, saw the Wildcats finish in third place in the team standings after recording 22 points, finishing just four points behind second place Roberts Wesleyan College. The host Pioneers ran away with the title after amassing 92 points.
Ekdahl won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:08.86 while teammate
Travis Enser (West Valley, N.Y./West Valley Central) was right behind at 2:13.03.
Eustance's victory came in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:33.35.
Senior
Mark Fox (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) added a first place showing in the shot put with a toss of 14.34 meters, as well as a fifth palce finish in the discus throw (31.20 meters).
Long jumpers
Tom Escott (Amherst, N.Y./St. Joseph's) and
Hunter Berry (Springville, N.Y./Springville-Griffith) took 2nd and 4th, respectively, in that event with Escott's jump (5.55 meters) just behind the event's leader (Gabe Rivera of Roberts Wesleyan at 5.61 meters).
The meet today was added to the Wildcats' schedule late to replace the cancelled SUNY Geneseo Open and represented Daemen's last opportunity for competition before the East Coast Conference Championships which are scheduled for April 27-28.
