Smith, Rugg, Pepero Lead Daemen At ROC City Classic

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's track and field was back in action today, competing at the Roc City Classic hosted by Nazareth College.

Fifth-year senior Brett Smith (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central), the reigning East Coast Conference men's track athlete of the week, was it again in the 5000 meter run, winning the event with a time of 16:08.18.

Sophomore Sam Rugg (Freeville, N.Y./Dryden) continued his solid season with a third place showing in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.90 seconds.  He added a fifth place finish in the long jump (6.22 meters) as well.

Senior Corey Pepero (Orchard Park, N.Y./Erie CC) took fourth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:25.38.

Senior Mark Fox (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville Senior) recorded a pair of top-five finishes to lead the way for the Wildcats' field event participants.  Fox took fourth in the discus throw (36.85 meters) and fifth in the shot put (13.55 meters).

The Wildcats return to Rochester for a third consecutive weekend when they partake in the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, April 13.
