LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Daemen College men's track & field team put forth a valliant effort at today's East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at the Track and Field Complex on the campus of Georgian Court University, finishing in fifth place.  The Wildcats, in just their fourth year as an intercollegiate program, accumulated 47 team points - 15 better than a year ago - with numerous personal and school records being set.

It was freshmen Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) and Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) who did the majority of the damage for the Wildcats.

Reid set school and personal records with an 11.56-second time in the preliminary round of the 100 meter dash.  He later placed sixth in the finals of the event by running it in 11.68 seconds.  He later added a third-place finish in the triple jump (12.54 meters) and a runner-up finish in the long jump (6.40 meters).  His leap in the long jump finals came up just one one-hundreth short of first place (Aaron McGinnis, Roberts Wesleyan, 6.41 meters) and his preliminary-round leap of 6.71 meters was the longest of the competition for anyone.

Jemmison took fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.14 seconds, shaving .16 seconds off his preliminary-round time.  He added a runner-up finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.14 seconds, good for school and personal records, as well.

Not to be outdone, juniors Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) and Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) put together a solid afternoons, as well.  Eustance set school and personal records in the 5000 meter run, finishing in third place overall with a time of 15:57.92.  His classmate, Ekdahl, ran to a runner-up finish - Daemen's third of the day - in the 800 meter run (1:56.28).

Additional personal records were set by the Wildcats' Travis Enser (West Valley, N.Y./West Valley Central), Brandon Tytka (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster), Hunter Berry (Colden, N.Y./Springville-Griffith Inst.) and Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy).  Enser finished seventh in the 400 meter dash with his personal-best time of 53.42 seconds.  Tytka (11.83 seconds) and Berry (12.35 seconds) set their personal records in the preliminary round of the 100 meter dash.  Cordulla's top time came in the 800 meter run (2:00.00) where he finished eighth in the finals.

Queens College racked up 186 points to sit atop the team standings, taking the conference championship in the process.

Daemen will close its 2013-14 season at next weekend's Golden Eagle Run hosted by The College at Brockport.
