FULL RESULTSBROCKPORT, N.Y. - The freshmen duo of
Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) and
Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) combined for six top-four finishes and bookended a runner-up showing in a relay to lead the Daemen College men's track and field team at the Brockport Golden Eagle Run held at Schriver Stadium today. Today's event marked the close of the Wildcats' 2013-14 season.
Jemmison and Reid, who each earned all-conference honors for their performances at last weekend's East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, were on fire again today, helping coach Jessica Gorski's squad dominate the sprinting events with Reid chipping in two more top-four finishes in field events just for show. Jemmison couldn't be touched on the track, winning both the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes with time of 23.18 and 53.57 seconds, respectively. Reid finished second in the 100 meter dash and third in the 200 meter dash (23.45 seconds). His time of 11.45 seconds in the shorter of the two set new school and personal records.
Reid would go on to finish third in the triple jump (12.67 meters) and fourth in the long jump (6.34 meters) as well.
As if that weren't enough, Jemmison ran leadoff and Reid closed on the Wildcats' 4 x 100 meter relay squad, teaming with sophomore
Brandon Tytka (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) and senior
Nick Sherry (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) to set a new school record in the event (43.80 seconds) while finishing in second place.
Daemen's solid performances weren't limited to Jemmison and Reid, however.
Tytka had a strong afternoon, as well, adding a 10th-place finish in the 100 meter dash and an 11th-place showing in the 200 meter dash (24.44 seconds). His 100-meter time of 11.75 seconds set a new personal record, besting his previous time of 11.83 seconds which he set at the conference championship meet last weekend.
Junior
Travis Enser (West Valley, N.Y./West Valley Central) helped the Wildcats go one-two in the 400 meter dash as he was the runner-up to Jemmison in that race with a time of 54.56 seconds.
The duo of
Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and
Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800 meter run. Cordulla (2:01.17) edged out Ekdahl (2:01.97) by eight-tenths of a second.
Rounding out the Wildcats' top-15 performances, newcomer
Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College) was a 12th-place finisher in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:13.51.
