Men's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season In Rochester

Wildcats Forced To Take Abbreviated Squad Due To Schedule Change

FULL RESULTS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - After a couple of postponements and even a cancellation, the Daemen College men's track and field team finally got the outdoor portion of their 2013-14 season underway by competing at the Alumni Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester at Fauver Stadium today.  Coach Jessica Gorski was focred to bring an abbreviated squad - just 14 athletes made the trip - after inclement weather caused the event to be moved from Saturday to Sunday.  With a small number of athletes, the Wildcats finished in 18th place out of 23 competing teams at the event.

Distance runner Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) had the top showing of the day for Daemen, finishing in fifth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.05.  Freshman Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) finished in 23rd in the same event, coming in just six seconds after Ekdahl with a time of 2:01.27.

Also on the track, freshman Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) grabbed a pair of top-20 finishes in sprinting events.  He finished the 400 meter dash in 52.74 seconds which was good for 10th place.  He added an 18th-place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.30 seconds.

In the longer distances, veteran Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) was an 18th-place finisher in the 5000 meter run (16:00.51) while teammate Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College) wasn't far behind, finishing in 21st (16:04.85.).

Freshman Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) was the lone field-event entrant for the Wildcats as he took  home sixth place honors in the long jump by leaping 6.39 meters.

Next up for Daemen is a trip back to Rochester on Saturday, April 12 for the ROC City Classic hosted by Nazareth College.
