Reid Paces Men's Track & Field At Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Sophomore Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) picked up a pair of top-12 finishes to lead the Daemen College men's track and field team at today's ROC City Classic hosted by Nazareth College at Golden Flyer Stadium.

Reid, a sprinter/jumper, earned a sixth-place finish in the long jump, leaping 6.44 meters.  He went on to add a 12th-place performance in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.73 seconds.

Other top performances for the Wildcats came in field events.  Freshman Zach Laird (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) set a new school record in the javelin with a throw of 36.08 meters.  It was the first javelin throw of Laird's career, setting a new benchmark one week after teammate Nick Marlin (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) established a new school record in the same event (34.01 meters) while competing at the Bob Kahn Invitational hosted by Oberlin College.  Laird finished 27th in today's javelin event.

Marlin picked up ninth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.78 meters.  Rounding out the top field-event performers was freshman thrower Patrick Dorsey (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) who finished 21st in the hammer throw (34.89 meters).

It was a tough day on the track for the Wildcats as the competitors battled temperatures in the low 40's and biting wind gusts.  Daemen's top showing came in the 3200-meter relay, placing two teams in the top five.  With a time of 8:49.54, the team of David DelValle (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West), Kevin Roginson (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North), Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) and Matt McCann (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) finished in third place out of nine competing teams.  Finishing in fifth place (8:55.63) was the Wildcat quartet of Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy), Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College), Matt VanDeMortel (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and Mike Capestrani (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown).

Roginson added a personal-record time of 4:34.91 in the 1500-meter run.  He finished 64th.  Daemen's top performer in the event was Rushok who finished 35th with a time of 4:23.62.

Today's meet was the team's final tune-up for the 2015 East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships which is set for next Saturday (April 18) on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.
