ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Sophomore
Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) picked up a pair of top-12 finishes to lead the Daemen College men's track and field team at today's ROC City Classic hosted by Nazareth College at Golden Flyer Stadium.
Reid, a sprinter/jumper, earned a sixth-place finish in the long jump, leaping 6.44 meters. Â He went on to add a 12th-place performance in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.73 seconds.
Other top performances for the Wildcats came in field events. Â Freshman
Zach Laird (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) set a new school record in the javelin with a throw of 36.08 meters. Â It was the first javelin throw of Laird's career, setting a new benchmark one week after teammate
Nick Marlin (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) established a new school record in the same event (34.01 meters) while competing at the Bob Kahn Invitational hosted by Oberlin College. Â Laird finished 27th in today's javelin event.
Marlin picked up ninth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.78 meters. Â Rounding out the top field-event performers was freshman thrower
Patrick Dorsey (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) who finished 21st in the hammer throw (34.89 meters).
It was a tough day on the track for the Wildcats as the competitors battled temperatures in the low 40's and biting wind gusts. Â Daemen's top showing came in the 3200-meter relay, placing two teams in the top five. Â With a time of 8:49.54, the team of
David DelValle (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West),
Kevin Roginson (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North),
Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) and
Matt McCann (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) finished in third place out of nine competing teams. Â Finishing in fifth place (8:55.63) was the Wildcat quartet of
Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy),
Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College),
Matt VanDeMortel (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and
Mike Capestrani (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown).
Roginson added a personal-record time of 4:34.91 in the 1500-meter run. Â He finished 64th. Â Daemen's top performer in the event was Rushok who finished 35th with a time of 4:23.62.
Today's meet was the team's final tune-up for the 2015 East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships which is set for next Saturday (April 18) on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.
