ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's track and field team posted a sixth-place showing at the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held this afternoon on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College. The host Redhawks claimed the team championship.

A school-record performance by freshmen Patrick Dorsey (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) in the hammer throw and a first-place showing by junior Robert Ralyea (Lockport, N.Y/Lockport) in the pole vault highlighted a strong showing in the field events for the Wildcats. Dorsey placed seventh in the hammer with a toss of 35.38 meters. He also placed fifth in the shot put (11.88 meters) and 11th in the discus (28.28 meters). Ralyea, a three-time conference indoor champion in the pole vault, set an ECC outdoor championship record (3.50), bettering the previous mark of 3.20 set by Michael Pignotti of Molloy College in 2013. Ralyea also placed 7th in the javelin with a throw of 35.73 meters.

Freshman Nick Marlin (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) and sophomore Brandon Damato (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) also turned in solid efforts during the field events. Marlin placed fifth in the high jump (1.78), sixth in the shot put (11.77 meters), 10th in the javelin (31.00 meters) and 11th in the hammer (21.25 meters). Damato finished seventh in the shot put (11.53 meters), ninth in the discus (30.99 meters), and 10th in the hammer (22.53 meters). Sophomore Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) competed in the long jump and placed fifth (6.38 meters).

Freshman Andy Reid (Lockport, N.Y./University of San Francisco), freshman Matt McCann (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier), sophomore Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy), senior Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) and junior Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State) all posted top-five finishes during the track events.

Reid placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.76), McCann finished fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:35.30) and Cordulla finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:04.35). Eustace and Rushok both competed in the 5,000-meter run. Eustace placed third (16:22.99) while Rushok finished fourth (16:46.76).

Additional highlights during the track events included Top-10 finishes by Alex Reid, sophomore Matt VanDeMortel (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and freshman David DelValle (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West). Reid placed sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.43) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (22.97). VanDeMortel placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.01, while DelValle finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run (18:39.40).

Daemen caps the season next weekend (April 25) when it takes part in the Brockport Golden Eagle Run.
