Roginson became the first Daemen athlete to run a sub-15-minute time in the 5,000 meters, crossing the finish line today in 14:57.20.  That time shaved a whopping 50 seconds off the previous record (15:47.38) which was set by the now-graduated Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College) last season at the SPIRE Indoor Track and Field Challenge.  As the lone Division II athlete in the 5,000-meter field, Roginson's time placed him 18th out of 27 competitors.  The field was filled with Division I athletes, including those from Providence College, University of Massachusetts-Lowell and SUNY Albany, among others, as well as non-collegiate runners from various running clubs.  Matt Fischer from the B.A.A. Running Club won the race with a time of 14:02.45.  The top collegian was Providence's Hugh Armstrong who finished second (14:06.43). On the women's side, Donahue placed 17th out of 22 competitors with 5,000-meter time of 17:34.84.  Karissa Schweizer of the University of Missouri won the race going away with a time of 15:37.40, some 14 seconds faster than the nearest competitor.  Donahue is the team record holder in the event with a time of 17:15.05 set at the SPIRE Indoor Track and Field Challenge last February. The remainder of the Daemen men's and women's track and field teams will open the season at the Houghton Invitational on Friday, January 20.
