AMHERST, N.Y. - Sophomore
Kevin Roginson (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) established a new school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to lead the Daemen College men's outdoor track and field team today during competition at the University at Buffalo Invitational. The meet, held at UB Stadium just three miles from the Daemen campus, was the first-ever for the Wildcats in their home 716 area code.
Roginson finished third in the event today, crossing the finish line with a time of 10:11.34 which bested the previous record (10:29.32) set by teammate
Jake Pronti (Pendleton, N.Y./Starpoint) earlier this season. Pronti competed today as well, finishing fourth with a time of 10:31.41.
Sprinter
Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Generation), fresh off being named the team's M.V.P. as last night's awards banquet, competed in just one event today, finishing ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.59 seconds.
Junior middle distance runner
Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) had his best performance of the season in the 800 meter run, finishing 10th with a time of 1:58.84. Coming in 12th place in the same event was junior
Matt VanDeMortel (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) with a time of 2:04.46.
Today's meet, which included the host UB Bulls along with University of Pittsburgh, SUNY Fredonia, Niagara University, University of Guelph and University of Toronto, was not scored for team standings.
Daemen will conclude its 2016 season with the Cardinal Last Chance Meet hosted by Saint John Fisher College on May 14.
