Daemen Continues Outdoor Campaign At Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's track and field team took part in the Brockport Invitational today hosted by the College at Brockport.

Junior Zach Laird (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) continued to be the leading force for the Wildcats, on both the track and on the field. Laird, one of Daemen's most versatile athletes, had the top finish of the day with his performance in the javelin throw. The two-time ECC Field Athlete of the Week finished fourth with a heave of 47.37 meters. He also added a 10^th place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (17.55 seconds) and a 12^th place showing in the shot put (12.18) meters.

Daemen had three of the top-10 finishes in the javelin throw, with senior Jonathan Dygert (Springville, N.Y./Springville) and freshman Sullivan Keller (Alden, N.Y./Alden) accompanying Laird. Dygert placed sixth with a toss of 46.76 meters while Keller's throw of 41.60 meters was the tenth best out of 45 competitors.

On the track, sophomore Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) posted a time of 4:13.57 in the 1500-meter run, finishing 12^th out of 57 entrants.

Senior Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and sophomore Jonny Schmidt (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) both turned in solid efforts in the 800-meter run, as Cordulla placed 16^th out of a field of 65 with a time of 2:02.57 and Schmidt finished 19^th with a time of 2:04.44.

Additional highlights of the track events included three top-20 finishes in the 400-meter dash. Laban Korir (Bomet, Kenya/Litein), Justin Petrocy (Elma, N.Y./University at Buffalo) and Tyler Compo (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) finished 15^th(53.071 sec.), 16^th(53.074 sec.) and 19^th(53.40) respectively.

Daemen, who finished fifth at last year's championships, travel to West Nyack, New York to compete in the East Coast Conference Championships slated for April 22.
