Men's Track & Field 4/22/2017 5:40:00 PM Lea Sobieraski, Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant Men's Track Earns Fourth-Place Showing At ECC Outdoor Championships WEST NYACK, N.Y. – The Daemen College men's track and field teams posted a fourth-place showing at the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held this afternoon at Clarkstown South High School in West Nyack, N.Y. The meet host, St. Thomas Aquinas College, claimed the team championship with 184 points. The Wildcats accumulated 53 points in their performance today. Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Generation), Jonathan Dygert (Sprinville, N.Y./Springville-Griffith Inst.), and Zach Laird (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) each posted a second-place finish in their respective events for the Wildcats. On the track, Jemmison finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.21 seconds. In the preliminaries, Jemmison ran the race in 11.37 seconds to earn a spot in the final event. In his first time competing in the high jump this season, Laird finished second with a jump of 1.78 meters. He also established a new school record in the 110-meter hurdles, eclipsing his previous mark of 17.55 seconds with a record-breaking time of 17.53 seconds. His standout performance was good for a third place showing. Lastly, Laird placed fifth in the javelin throw with a heave of 46.91 meters. Dygert earned his second-place finish out of 16 entrants in the javelin with a throw of 47.46 meters. He later finished seventh in the hammer throw (33.03 meters). Additional highlights of the track events included a fourth-place showing by sophomore Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) in the 5,000-meter run (16:07.40), a sixth-place effort in the 800-meter run (2:04.55) by senior Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and a seventh-place showing by freshman Tyler Compo (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) in the 400-meter dash (52.99 seconds). In field events, senior Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) and freshman Sullivan Keller (Alden, N.Y./Alden) each placed fourth in their individual events. Reid got back into action with a solid performance in the long jump, placing fourth with a leap of 6.26 meters. In his first ECC Championship meet, Keller finished fourth in the shot put with a launch of 12.18 meters. He also posted a sixth-place finish in the discus (30.23 meters). Daemen's relay teams also fared well. The 4x100 team of Laird, Reid, junior Justin Petrocy (Elma, N.Y./Univ. of Buffalo), and sophomore Drew Greenaway (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Generation) placed third with a time of 44.90 seconds, just one second shy of the school record. The 4x800 team of Cordulla, Timothy Poole (Tayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y./Fillmore) finished fourth with a time of 8:45.11. Daemen returns to action next weekend when it takes part in the University at Buffalo Invitational on Saturday, April 29.
