15 Daemen Track & Field Athletes Earn All-Conference Recognition

AMHERST, N.Y. – 15 student-athletes of the Daemen College track and field program have been awarded All-East Coast Conference honors.  The all-conference teams were decided based on individual performances at the ECC Championship meet last month, and they were announced in a press release from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Middle distance specialist Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y.) led the way for the Wildcat women, garnering two first-team awards.  The senior placed second out of 13 entrants in the one-mile run with a time of 5:20.36, and followed up with a first-place showing in the 1,000-meter run-crossing the finish line in 3:06.57.  Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y.) and Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y.) joined Denton in earning first-team All-Conference recognition in the pole vault.  Haude eclipsed her own school record, clearing 3.26 meters to take home the conference title, while teammate Kress finished second after clearing 3.05 meters.

In addition, rookie distance runner Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.), middle distance specialist Rebekah Zee (East Aurora, N.Y.) and freshman thrower Cayleigh Scia (Lancaster, N.Y.) earned second-team All-ECC honors, as did the Daemen distance medley team of Shania LiVecchi (West Seneca, N.Y.), Katie Wright (Kent, N.Y.), Ashley Dusza (Alden, N.Y.) and Rebekah Zee.  Warner ran a record-breaking 2:20.48 in the 800-meter to place fourth and Zee also added a fourth-place finish in the 1,000-meter with a time of 3:14.10.  In field events, Scia had a stellar ECC Championship debut with a third-place finish in the weight throw (12.62 meters).  In relay action, Daemen's distance medley quartet placed second after crossing the finish line in 13:32.56.

The all-conference honorees helped the Daemen women to a fifth-place finish in the ECC Championships.

On the men's side, Alonzo Rodriguez-Spencer (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Zach Laird (Alexander, N.Y.) were named to the ECC All-Conference first-team for their individual performances.  Rodriguez-Spencer made his first appearance in an ECC Championship meet, finishing second in the 500-meter.  The freshman standout eclipsed his own school benchmark with a record-breaking time of 1:06.45.  Laird, a veteran star for the Wildcats, placed second in the shot put with a throw of 13.80 meters.

Freshman standout Rodney Corbin (Williamsville, N.Y.), junior distance specialist Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y.), and sophomore thrower Sullivan Keller (Alden, N.Y.) collected second-team All-Conference acknowledgment.  Corbin matched his school record in the 60-meter dash, finishing fourth with a time of 7.01 seconds.  In the 5,000-meter, Canales placed third out of 12 participants with a time of 15:32.87.  In field events, Keller finished fourth in the shot put with a heave of 12.71 meters.

The all-conference honorees helped the Daemen men to a sixth-place finish in the ECC Championships.

Daemen resumes its 2018 schedule when the outdoor portion of the schedule gets underway with the Geneseo Early Spring Invitational on Saturday, March 31.
