Women's Tennis Hosts Three League Matches To Close Fall Season

The Daemen College women's tennis team wraps up its fall season by hosting three East Coast Conference opponents this weekend, including the top two teams in the league standings.

ON THE SIDELINES
Daemen: Stephen Beatty enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Wildcats...over the course of his first three seasons, Beatty has guided the Daemen women's tennis team to a 24-46 record...a former collegiate player at Division II Northwood University (Mich.) and Division III D'Youville College, Beatty got his coaching start as an assistant to Kelly Brown, serving for one season - Daemen's inaugural season of tennis competition - before being promoted to the top post.
   
DAEMEN SCOUTING REPORT (5-9, 0-4 ECC)
Daemen returns seven players from last year's team that tied the program record for overall wins after finishing 8-16 overall and 1-6 in the East Coast Conference...among the returners are the duo of seniors Hayle Scanlan and Karli Hollins...Scanlan enters the season already ranking as the Wildcats' all-time leader in singles victories (33), total singles matches (76), doubles victories (33) and total doubles matches (77)...Hollins went 13-9 in singles play and 17-9 in doubles play, tying teammate Gretchen Ringler's single-season record for singles victories, and establishing a new program record for doubles wins...Ringler, who set the singles record as a freshman in 2014-15, is also back after earning nine more singles wins last season...that tied her for third on the team with fellow returners Jessica Robins and Delaney Fragale...Daemen was picked seventh in the ECC preseason poll...half of Daemen's 14 matches this season have been decided by three points or less...the Wildcats are an even 3-3 since Oct. 7...a 7-2 road win at Caldwell last Sunday snapped a three-match slide...Hollins, Scanlan, Fragale and Shaylah Iverson all scored wins in both singles and doubles play against CU...additional recent wins have come against Cedarville (6-3) and Houghton (9-0)...Scanlan has gone 6-4 over her last 10 singles matches, and she leads the team with nine total singles wins...she posted the 40th singles win of her career in the defeat of Cedarville...Iverson has posted an 8-7 record in singles play in her return to the team following a two-year hiatus...Hollins posted a 6-2, 6-2 win in first singles over Cedarville's Lauren Jackson, the 2015-16 GMAC Player of the Year, last Friday...in doubles, play Ringler and Scanlan share the team lead with eight wins, individually...Daemen was eliminated from conference tournament contention following a 7-2 loss at LIU Post last Saturday.
   
MOLLOY SCOUTING REPORT (1-8, 0-5 ECC)
Molloy is led by second-year head coach Jeana Frey...the Lions return four players from their 2015-16 team which went 0-13 overall and 0-7 n league play...Molloy was picked eighth in the ECC preseason poll...the Lions' 9-0 win over Division III Albertus Magnus on Sept. 25 snapped a 25-match losing streak which dated back to the 2014-15 season...Molloy is currently mired in a 26-match losing streak against Division II opponents...four of their eight losses this season have been by three points or less...the Lions are coming off an 8-1 loss to Queens on Oct. 15...newcomer Montaine Le Goupil-Maier leads the Lions with a 4-5 mark in singles play this season...fellow newcomers Samantha Bloecker and Alyssa Migliorini have each posted three singles wins...the Lions, who went 7-77 in singles play as a team last season, have already more than doubled that production with a 16-32 mark this season.

QUEENS SCOUTING REPORT (6-0, 4-0 ECC)
Queens is led by longtime head coach Alan Nagel who has amassed over 500 victories in his 35 years at the helm...Nagel has led the Knights to 16 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances...the Knights return four players from their 2015-16 team which went 16-4 overall and 6-1 in ECC play...QC fell in the ECC Tournament finals to NYIT last fall, but earned at at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament where their season ended with a 5-4 loss to Concordia (N.Y.)...among the Knights' returners this season is 2015-16 second-team All-ECC selection Angelika Sobiecka...Sobiecka posted a 14-6 mark in singles play and added a team-best 22 doubles wins last season...the Knights were picked second in the ECC preseason poll...QC has played six dual-matches without a loss this season...they are coming off their closest match of the season, a 5-4 win over LIU Post on Oct. 18...the Knights play at Roberts Wesleyan on Friday before heading to Daemen on Saturday.

NYIT SCOUTING REPORT (7-0, 4-0 ECC)
NYIT is led by interim head coach Rich Bustamante...Bustamante recently took the reins after Jason Pasion was appointed to the head coaching position at Division I Hofstra...the Bears return five players from their 2015-16 team which won the ECC regular season and tournament titles, as well as the East Region title, advancing to the NCAA Tournament round of 16 for the fourth straight year...NYIT ended the 2015-16 season with an overall record of 20-7...the Bears have won the last four ECC championships...among the Bears' returners are a trio of first-team All-ECC performers, including the 2015-16 ECC Player of the Year, Alessia Rossetti...Rossetti went 19-6 in singles play last season, including a 14-3 mark in the first singles position of dual-match play...she added a 22-4 individual mark in doubles action...she's joined by fellow all-league picks Melanie Benyadi and Paulina Velasquez...Benyadi posted a 19-5 mark in singles play, while Velasquez tied for the team lead with 21 singles wins a season ago...the Bears also picked up Lena Dimmer as a transfer from California University (Pa.)...Dimmer was chosen as this year's ECC Preseason Player of the Year after she compiled a 20-7 singles record and a 25-4 doubles mark to earn first-team All-PSAC West honors...NYIT was the unanimous pick to win the league again this season in the ECC preseason poll...the Bears have posted an unblemished record, dropping just three individual matches in dual-match play so far this season...Velasquez, Benyadi and newcomer Antonella Lopez are all a perfect 7-0 in singles play to lead the team...senior Gabriela Siembab has posted a 6-0 singles mark...Dimmer is 6-1 so far this season, as is fellow transfer Karolina Pondusova...including conference tournament play, the Bears enter this weekend's action having won 32 consecutive ECC matches...the Bears play at Goldey-Beacom on Thursday, and at District of Columbia on Friday before facing Daemen on Sunday.
