wvb team 2021

Women's Volleyball 2021-22 Year In Review

The Daemen women's volleyball team enjoyed a magical season in 2021, posting a 25-8 overall record and a 12-0 mark in East Coast Conference play. It marked the first unbeaten conference season in program history and the Wildcats went on to win their second ECC tournament championship, grab a third NCAA tournament berth and win the program's first-ever NCAA Division II East Regional title. While COVID-19 precautions persisted, the Wildcats were able to complete a full schedule after the pandemic forced their 2020 season to be shortened and played in the spring of 2021.

THE IMPACT

AVA AND FAMILY ELITE EIGHT
Ava Hackett (front row, center) was paired with the Daemen women's volleyball team through a partnership with Team IMPACT. Ava and her family were present at many Daemen games throughout the season, including their trip to Tampa for the Elite Eight.

In the summer of 2021, Daemen Athletics entered into a formal partnership with Team IMPACT, a nonprofit organization that matches children with serious chronic illnesses with collegiate athletic teams.

One child who quickly became a member of the Daemen family is Ava Hackett. She was drafted by the Wildcats in April of 2021 at the age of 11. Ava has experienced health complications throughout her life after being born just 24 weeks into pregnancy and at a weight of just over a pound. She was hospitalized for the first 455 days of her life and still needed the assistance of a ventilator and feeding tube after coming home.

After being a part of Daemen's run to ECC Championship, Ava and her family were able to travel to Tampa, Florida for the Wildcats' Elite Eight match thanks to arrangements made by Team IMPACT.

Check out the videos below to see more about Ava and the Wildcats at the Elite Eight. Also, watch comments from Daemen coaches and student-athletes after their quarterfinal matchup about the importance of Ava and Team IMPACT.
